VISUAL ARTS AT SHORELINES 2023
Welcome to the visual arts section of our Shorelines website, where you will
find information about our outstanding visual arts programme for 2023.
A number of important and separate multi-strand exhibitions will take place this
year and the town also has several pieces of public art for you to appreciate.
The Gallery at the Workhouse
In the Gallery at the Workhouse, local artists will be given a chance to display a single piece in the Long Gallery.
In the Double Gallery, we will show the work of our three invited artists,
Fergus A. Ryan, Josephine Geaney and Annemiek Hamelink.
We are proud to announce that Fergus Ryan will give a live demonstration in the gallery
on Friday, 15th September at 11am and that is warmly recommended.
In addition, the workhouse is hosting three other exhibitions:
Otherworldly Wonders of our Bogs & Wetlands by Tina Claffey: Macro Photography
Dark Shadows by Kieran Tuohy: Sculptures in bog oak
Famine Artworks by David Rooney: Engravings on printed panels
Finally, local artists will also be exhibiting and selling their work.
Portumna Castle Gallery
Our visual arts programme at Portumna Castle also includes work in the Castle Gallery adjacent
to the café and in the grounds of Portumna Castle.
The main exhibition is Junk Kouture. This worldwide fashion competition for schools
originally started in Ireland with a focus on creativity through sustainability.
Here you will see incredible creations of wearable art fashioned from recycled
materials and found items.
The Exam Collection features some of the fabulous works produced by students of both Junior
Certifcate & Leaving Certificate classes of 2023 under the guidance of art teacher Anne Keane. This
exhibition will be curated by current students, showcasing the creativity and talent of our young
students.
Keep an eye out for our main festival programme for other art projects in our schools, library and outdoor spaces.
