The Nicholas Treacy Memorial Recitation Competition
The annual Recitation Competition is one of our festival highlights. Each entrant must recite “off by heart” a poem previously published and written prior to 1935 - the year Nicholas, a lover of words and reciting was born. Judging will be based on presentation, delivery, intonation and recall.
The prize is a specially designed wooden book created by local craftsman, Brian Murray.

Guidelines:
1. Entry is open to all over 16 years of age.
2. Entry fee of €5 is payable at the event.
3. Each entrant must recite ‘off by heart’ a poem previously published and written by another poet prior to 1935.
4. One recital per entrant.
5. Time limit - 6 minutes max.
6. Prompter will be available to assist - two copies of the poem to be presented to the committee beforehand.
7. Judging will be based on presentation, delivery, intonation and recall. The judge’s decision will be final.
8. Register your entry by Sept 10th by e-mail or phone, stating name, contact number and name of poem.
