In Concert: Manus Maguire, Mareko Neito & Garry O’Briain

Picture
Saturday, 17 September | 1.30pm
Christ Church
€10

A traditional music concert with Manus McGuire (fiddle), Mareka Naito (fiddle, harp, concertina) & Garry O’Briain (guitar/mandocello). This trio showcases the passion and joy that is still possible to experience in this complex world. From Buttons & Bows to Boys of The Lough, from Japan to Italy to Sligo, this will be a lunchtime blend of music to savour.

Manus McGuire, renowned fiddle player, born in Tullamore, grew up in Sligo and is now resident in East Clare. His musical gift became widely recognised when he won the prestigious Fiddler of Dooney, at age 14. Since then he has gone on to record with Buttons and Bows, Moving Cloud, Brock McGuire Band and Full Tilt, as well as three solo fiddle recordings.

Mareka Naito started playing classical violin, winning Japanese Classical Music competitions and the Velsus International Junior Competition (Italy). Discovering Irish traditional music in 2007, her love for fiddle developed.  She is also proficient in harp and concertina.

Garry O’Briain is one of the most sought after and distinguished accompanists in Irish traditional music on mandocello and guitar. He has been a member of landmark Irish music ensembles including Skylark, Buttons and Bows and Boys of the Lough. His solo CDs are Cat won’t Fly and
Carolan’s Dream.
