We are calling on interested artists to have their work ready by the end of the Summer.

We’ll be taking in work at the Workhouse in Portumna from 6-7.30pm on both Monday, 21st August & Tuesday, 22nd August.

​Shorelines Film Nights is delighted to relaunch with the highest-grossing Irish-language film of all time around the world, and first Irish-language drama to gross €1m at the Ireland and UK box office, AN CAILÍN CIÚIN

Nine year old Cáit (Catherine Clinch) is sent by her dysfunctional family to spend the summer with an Aunt and Uncle she has never met before. Through the tender care of her aunt Eibhlín (Carrie Crowley) Cáit finally feels loved and safe. Despite himself her uncle Sean (Andrew Bennett) forges a bond and
for the first time Cáit experiences the warmth of a loving home. The once quiet Cáit blossoms in their care, but in this house where there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers one.

Wonderfully recreating the feel of a country home in 1980s Ireland, An Cailín Ciúin, adapted from Claire Keegan’s acclaimed short story, Foster, is a genuine, deeply felt portrait of the bonds that sustain us.

From a man remembering his wife who he would dance with to Lyric FM every Sunday on the Marina or a ghost from the Poorhouse trapped here until today, the short plays come together to form an audio impression of Portumna from the eyes and mouths of some fictional residents.

Are you fond of rhyme? Do you recall a verse or two of a poem long learned and lovingly remembered? If so, consider coming along to “Lines Learned By Heart” at Shorelines Arts Festival, Portumna. This ever-popular event sees the overall winner awarded the Nicholas Treacy Memorial Prize. The recitation chosen by each participant must be written by a poet prior to 1935 and is to be recited “off by heart” with a time limit of 5 minutes per entrant. A prompter will be on hand to assist if there is any stage fright!

The event is held in memory of Nicholas Treacy - a Portumna man who loved words and, in particular, poetry and reciting same. Nicholas, born in 1935, passed away in 2010 but his passion lives on in the lines that will flow on Sunday, 18th Sept from 11.30 am in The Boathouse Bar, Portumna . So get learning those lines!

Adult Singing Workshop on 7th September

Unmask your voice and gather together to sing with Shorelines Singing Tutor, Rebecca Gilbert. At this group event, vocal chords will be reawakened through a series of warm ups, tunes and above all, the fun of just singing together. After the first Shorelines Arts Festival, many moons ago, the group Omna emerged. This workshop for adult male and female voices opens the door to these early voices and welcomes new people to join in the fun. No previous experience in choirs required, just a need to sing!
Rebecca Gilbert is an award-winning singer, conductor and multi-instrumentalist and she is a passionate advocate of the positive health benefits of music, especially group singing, and directs four choirs to share this philosophy.
