As a two year two part project for the Shorelines festival, I intend to work with the Shorelines team and the residents of Portumna to tell a story inspired by and related to the town, the people, its history and its way of being today which will take the form of a theatrical production for the 2022 Festival.
To ensure that I can effectively do that then as a part of the 2021 Festival, I will set up stall in the town to meet with residents who are willing to tell me a story, any story at all. COVID regulations allowing, I will be set up in a local pub or shop where people can come and sit and have a chat and a cup of tea and tell their story.
These stories can be anything at all, they could relate to the town which they’ve lived in and love, they can be a nugget of history about Portumna or a personal story pulled from their own lives. The stories will then be recorded by myself as research material. By telling their stories, this will also be a chance for the people of Portumna to partake in the creation of the piece of work which we will present then for the 2022 festival.
After the 2021 festival takes place, inspired by the stories which have been shared with me and all that I have glimpsed and experienced at the 2021 festival, I will work with the Shorelines team to divine the story we would like to tell with the 2022 piece.
