Mick Hanly
Singer/songwriter, Mick Hanly has been around the block more times than most and has tried on a variety of hats in search of his own voice. He had a major hit with his song 'Past the Point of Rescue' Stateside in 1992 and picked up three BMI awards, most recently for passing the 'Two Million Radio Plays'. He also has two Hot Press, and two National Entertainment awards.
Matt Keane
Matt, a member of the renowned Caherlistrane Keane Family, is a musician, singer and performer. Matt has featured on many albums including Out in the Fields. Following on the heels of that successful album, he released Pictures in Time in 2008, with his daughter, Orlaith, which was deemed one of the best albums of the year.
MYSTIC FORCE DANCERS
This troup of professional, world-champion dancers perform at corporate events from weddings to dinner parties and include Portumna's Champion Stephanie Power. The show features dancers from Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. Mystic Force has built its success on the concept of only hiring the best Irish dancers in the business, therefore ensuring an outstanding performance everytime, regardless of the occasion.
Cherie Worthington Eyre
Cherie Worthington Eyre is a professional contemporary dance teacher and choreographer. Having studied Ballet and Gymnastics in Australia, Cherie is now based in Galway and is a founding director of the Power Performance Academy and Moongate Dance Theatre. Her work is often performed in Australia and Ireland.
Astrid Tomrop
Astrid is a local textile artist who works mainly with felt and silk. She designs wall-hangings and clothing, pictures and accessories. Astrid is also a theatrical make-up artist and her Studio, Bombyx Mori, is on the Woodford Road from Portumna.
Poulnabrone Bouncy Dolmen by Jim Ricks
This is a giant soft sculpture that will be installed in the grounds of Portumna Castle for the public to enjoy and interact with for the afternoon of the 19th September. The artwork is a replica, at twice the scale, of the famous megalithic portal tomb located near Ballyvaughan in the Burren, Co. Clare.
Noel Monahan
Noel, a writer and poet from Cavan, has five poetry collections published by Salmon Poetry. He has written many plays including a recent adaptation of the Children of Lir. He broadcasts on radio including Sunday Miscellany, Lyric FM and many local stations. Noel's poem 'All Day Long" is a prescribed text for The New Leaving Certificate English Course 2011 and 2012.
Martin Mc Donnell
A recent graduate with a degree in Art & Design in GMIT, Martin's film is an abstract animation piece produced as part of his work for the degree. A mature student, Martin, who also dabbles in writing, lives in Aille with his wife and children.
Balloon Sculpture
Stagecraft Ireland artists will make a fantastic larger than life balloon sculpture for this year's festival. The sculpture will be a special commission by Shorelines Arts Festival of a "Lough Derg Monster". All are welcome to view and participate in the creation of this giant sculpture during the weekend. Oodles of fun for the whole family.
Dr Eamonn Crudden
Dr Crudden is the name of the director/creator of the main event for Shorelines Screen Scene - the three part series "Wallets Full of Blood". He is a lecturer in Film Studies at Dundalk Institute of Eduction. His films, which are made independently and released for free, include the powerful "Berlusconi's Mousetrap" and "Route Irish" as well as many short experimental pieces. "Route Irish" was shown as part of the "Stranger than Fiction" documentary season at the IFI in 2008.
MAE LEONARD
Writer, poet, broadcaster. Mae Leonard is the winner of several awards for poetry and short stories including the Jonathan Swift, C.D.Lewis and Gerard Manley Hopkins Awards. Now living in Co. Kildare, she is very proud of her Limerick roots. Mae is best known for her contributions to RTE's Sunday Miscellany and Lyric's Quiet Quarter. Her presentation will be readings, with comment, from her published and broadcast pieces.
Lidia de Lange
Lidia de Lange was born in Kroonstad, South Africa and studied painting, printmaking and jewellery design at the Pretoria Technicon, graduating with a diploma in Fine Art. She was a member of Artspace studios from 1995-2004, and has been involved in several artists co-operatives. She has exhibited in many group and solo shows in Ireland and abroad including UCHG, Tralee IT, Iarnrod Eireann Galway and Coleraine General Hospital. She lives in Co. Galway.
David Day
David Day is the founder of jabba jabba jembe. He has been studying African and World Drumming for over 10 years in Ireland and also while travelling in Europe, the US and Senegal, Gambia, Guinea and Ghana, West Africa. For over 5 years now Dave has been working with various Arts companies, schools, festivals, corporate parties and community groups facilitating Percussion workshops and Drum Circles.
Tony Hogan
Tony Hogan a musician and singer who has featured on groups from Royal Flush to Bog the Donkey. He is now involved in the Sign Out Youth Café project with a particular interest in helping young musicians by providing space, access to instruments, advice and skills.
ConTempo String Quartet
In January 2003, an exceptional string quartet from Romania - ConTempo - became Galway's first Ensemble-in-Residence and they have brought the joy of music to audiences in Galway city and county through their performances, educational activities and collaborative projects. Their programme will include pieces from Claude Debussy, Haydn and Robert Schumann. Shorelines Arts Festival feels very privileged to have them in Portumna for the 2010 festival.
Marie Power
Marie Power - music teacher, director, organist, music therapist and singer - has shared her music from Wicklow to Ballinasloe. Her workshop will include music from around the world in a variety of styles in a creative and relaxed environment. It is suitable for all levels, whether a regular, sometime or wannabe singer.
Paula Short
Paula, an annual workshop facilitator at Shorelines, is joint facilitator with Loughrea Youth Theatre. Drama and performance are her passions and she has also featured in many musical performances. Sharing her talent with Portumna's children is a pleasure for Paula as she takes time out from her hectic schedule.
Philip Short
The man at the piano keys, conductor and joint director of Loughrea's Youth Theatre, Philip loves to encourage young people to allow their voice to be heard. His own career includes performance, production and musical direction and Shorelines is thrilled to have him back for a third year running.
Mark Conroy
Mark Conroy is an English teacher, and also the designer of all the Shorelines Arts Festival promotional materials. His one act play The Weaver's Grave will be performed outdoors at Portumna Abbey, directed by John Smith - a special event in which the audience will also be part of the action. The play is an adaptation of the Seumas O'Kelly short story of the same name.
Shane Gilmore
A Clare-based sculptor and artist, Shane has created many pieces of sculpture including the Hands at Ennis Cathedral. He enjoys the performance and fun of Chainsaw Carving. See what he creates for Shorelines Arts Festival 2010.
Storytelling Caravan
Enter into strange lands and beautiful dreams in an adventure of the imagination, the storyteller weaves a world with her stories and tales from many lands. Meetings with moon fairies who play star ball and rock doctors with music spells, as well as everyday dragons and monsters guaranteed! All ages are welcome. Children from 5 to 11 are especially welcome!
Portumna Pen Pushers
Portumna's writing group who are launching a pamphlet of WWWW - Words While We Wait - prose and poetry for the public as we wait in the dental surgery or queue at the bank or sit in the hairdressers!
Helen Collins
Poet and musician from Pallas, Tynagh and member of Maple Poetry Group. Helen has fulfilled her ambition to publish a collection of her poetry to be launched at Shorelines.
OMNA Singers
Portumna's Vocal Group under the direction of Marie Power meet weekly to sing as a group for the sheer joy and pleasure of singing. New members are encouraged to join. Contact Joan @0876955166
Maple Poetry Group
A group of local lovers of rhyme, rhythm and reciting, who gather regularly to share their own work or recite poems of others. Their publication "Maple Leaves" is on sale locally.
