The largest deer species ever, Megaloceros, arrived into Ireland 37,000 years ago. It is thought these giant deer became extinct in Ireland before people are known to have arrived. Shorelines recreates this giant deer and he will make his way to Portumna with the creative skills of Donnacha Cahill using mild steel. Incorporated into the deer’s ‘giant horn’ will be an audio installation designed to capture the present and past in words, voice and music. Our tall art piece will blend in with the festival activities and stand out as a unique work of art at
Donnacha Cahill: A graduate in Fine Art Sculpture, Donnacha was widely acclaimed for his witty large-scale gramophone that popped up in various places in Galway during its 2016 International Arts Festival. His commissioned sculptures have been seen at the Electric Picnic and the National Ploughing Championships.
