WOODCARVING WORKSHOP - WOOD RECYCLING

Saturday 24th September 2011 9.30am – 4.30pm
This one day workshop is an introduction to basic relief woodcarving.
The day will start with participants being introduced to wood and its properties and to the various carving chisels and their uses. A half hour experimentation on rough wood will follow with participants familiarising themselves with wood, different grain directions, chisel marks, use of the mallet and in general just developing a feeling for wood and the chisels.
Carving designs will be available to choose from when deciding on main project which will be worked on for the rest of the day. Carving is about taking time for yourself, relaxing, having patience and simply enjoying the satisfaction of working with your hands.
Numbers are limited to maximise one to one tuition.
Tools and materials are provided.
Cost €45 - includes Organic and Vegetarian Lunch and Refreshment breaks.
Tutor
Sheila Flanagan is a Sculptor living and working in East Galway. She has a Fine Art Degree and also qualified from Letterfrack Furniture College. She was involved in
Community Arts for many years and for the last five years has been employed with County Galway VEC teaching art, woodcraft and environment studies. She regularly runs art and wood courses at her own ‘Artfarm’ in Cloonkeen, Newbridge, Co. Galway.
